Hey! I like the card - very, uh, cross-culturally fertilized. I actually saw an inflatable version of this animal - a Christmas gargoyle - about 8 feet high. Then it went away - I theroize that the neighbors complained. Clashed with the snowmen with red & green scarves and the Santas on Harleys. You know, the traditional Christian stuff.
It's funny, people get weird ideas about the whole 'traditional' thing. We sent this card to my mum and she acknowledged that she received the card but wouldn't comment on it...
Ah yes, the idea of what constitutes purity/tradition is a shifting, moving target. Kind of ironic.
But I have it from a particularly strong source that Santa-On-Harley IS mentioned in the Bible. As are elves. So they're all good as Christmas blow-up dolls.
Which is, of course, total nonsense. I don't have such information. But I do believe that gargoyles (demons, etc) DO have a place in Christian cosmology, so it seems that they ought to be natural choices in celebratory swag.
